Boat resonance-damping
Structural vibration of a Coast Guard ice breaker
In the operational speed range of the icebreaker "Des Groseilliers", there were loud noises and structural vibrations. The situation was alarming.
Silentec tested the propulson system at sea and determined that it was not the cause. Testing and modal analysis of the vibratory structure identified an amplification factor of 100, caused by the natural resonant frequency of the structure.
Silentec designed and implemented a viscoelastic damping system on the "guilty" structure. Problem eliminated!
